SRI LANKA’S BOOMING MIRISSA BEACH RESORT TOURISM ‘DRIVEN BY THE INTERNET AND PERSONAL RECOMMENDATIONS’

Mirissa, the tourist hotspot beach in southern Sri Lanka, is getting visitors mostly from positive online and personal recommendations, a new survey has found.

Market research firm Feedback.lk reports that internet searches and personal recommendations are key drivers of Mirissa’s success as a must-visit tourist destination.

The resort’s founding attraction is whale-watching, closely followed by the fine beach, the clarity of the water for diving, and the general cleanliness.

SRI LANKA, THE IDEAL TROPICAL FAMILY DESTINATION ‘WHERE THE KIDS ARE EASILY (AND SAFELY) ENTERTAINED’

Taking toddlers on a foreign holiday can be fraught at the best of times—but tropical sun, sea and sand never fails to settle the most fractious spirit!

Such was the case for Islay Lord and his family on their beach holiday in Sri Lanka, as he writes on the Globetrotting.com, a forum for like-minded parents to share their adventures.

He writes: “The last time we went to Sri Lanka we headed into the Hill Country and took in all sorts of historical and cultural sights, but didn’t manage more than a day or so on the beach north of Colombo.

YOUNG LONDON RESTAURATEUR ‘LOVES THE AMAZING VARIETY OF FOOD TO BE FOUND IN SRI LANKA’S CITY COLOMBO’

London restaurateur Yohini Nandakumar, whose parents are from Sri Lanka, loves the amazing variety of food to be found in our capital city Colombo, now a thriving tourist hub.

The Evening Standard reports that the UK-born co-founder of Lewisham’s Sparrow restaurant grew up visiting Colombo, where her parents had an apartment.

She recounts some of the places she loves to eat, starting with Galle Face Hotel, where “you can sit there with a cocktail and watch the sun go down over the sea. We always do that on our first evening”.
